The United Nations Soccer Club in the Arab States and Africa was established in 2008 under the leadership of Mr. Taher Elsonni who successfully organized many sport activities, tournaments and partnerships between the staff member of the UN system and local football clubs and youth organizations.
During the past 2 years of activities in Africa and the Arab States Region, Mr. Elsonni had visited several countries of the region,made partnership agreements with local football clubs in the Arab states area such as in Gaza and Israel. He also organized a serie of friendly games between UNDP staff member and local football club under the label of sport for development and peace as a mean of bridging culture and fostering partnership of youth of the region, which in turn improved mutual understanding, team-work and working relations, camaraderie, sportsmanship, friendship and social gathering through sport.
The UNSC in Africa and Arab States actively contributed during the past 2 years in harnessing the power inherent in sport toward achieving Peace and Development Goals in the region, including the eight Millennium Development Goals.
